A bearish trend continued at Pakistan Stock Exchange due to selling in various sectors. BRIndex100 lost 50.57 points or 1.15 percent to close at 4,351.44 points Friday. BRIndex100 touched intraday high of 4,403.28 and intraday low of 4,336.48 points. Volumes stood at 160.736 million shares.

BRIndex30 decreased by 286.97 points or 1.24 percent to close at 22,927.22 points with a turnover of 119.871 million shares.

The KSE-100 index declined by 445.40 points or 1.08 percent to close at 40,887.35 points. Daily trading volumes on the ready counter increased to 169.100 million shares as compared to 137.668 million shares traded Thursday.

The market capitalization declined by Rs 70 billion to Rs 8.130 trillion. Out of total 336 active scrips, 233 closed in negative, only 81 in positive while the value of 22 stocks remained unchanged.

K-Electric was the volume leader with 23.238 million shares. However, it lost Re 0.11 to close at Rs 6.38 followed by Pak Int. Bulk Terminal that gained Re 0.29 to close at Rs 12.61 with 13.414 million shares.

Siemens Pak and Sunrays Textile were the top gainers with Rs 13.00 and Rs 10.92, respectively to close at Rs 792.00 and Rs 229.42. Colgate Palmolive and Wyeth Pak were the top losers with Rs 100.00 and Rs 43.00, respectively to close at 1,900.00 and Rs 1,105.00.

BR Commercial Banks Index declined by 91.45 points or 1.03 percent to close at 8,808.43 points with total turnover of 11.729 million shares.

BR Cement Index lost 13.94 points or 0.31 percent to close at 4,411.71 points with 20.505 million shares.

BR Oil and Gas Index plunged by 76.12 points of 1.52 percent to close at 4,947.33 points with 11.358 million shares.

BR Tech. & Comm. Index closed at 1,051.71 points, down 8.94 points or 0.84 percent with 8.295 million shares. BR Power Generation and Distribution Index decreased by 93.83 points or 1.47 percent to close at 6,295.69 points with 26.173 million shares.

Danish Ladhani at JS Global Capital said that the Pakistan equities closed negative with KSE-100 index shedding 445 points, closing at 40,887 levels. The local bourse remained range-bound in the trading session, however with slight improvement in volumes.

Major sectors dragged the index down where heavy-weight scrip, HBL (down 2.0 percent), PPL (down 0.8 percent), ENGRO (down 1.4 percent), OGDC (down 1.5 percent), MCB (down 1.1 percent), HUBC (down 1.8 percent), UBL (down 1.4 percent), LUCK (down 1.1 percent), POL (down 2.0 percent) and BAHL (down 0.6 percent) cumulatively contributed minus 250 points to the negativity.

Mixed sentiments were witnessed in the Cement sector, where LUCK (down 1.1 percent) and MLCF (down 0.3 percent) were the major laggards whereas DGKC (up 0.5 percent) and FCCL (up 0.6 percent) were the gainers. Mixed sentiments were also seen in the Fertilizer sector where FFC (up 1.2 percent) and FFBL (up 0.6 percent) closed in the green zone. The sector reacted on the report that the government has proposed to waive off Rs 200 billion of the outstanding amount to various sectors under the Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC) settlement mechanism.
